Traffic senator Schreiner gives the green light for 16 new cycle paths in Berlin
Berlin - The plans for new cycle paths in Berlin have been checked and the results have now been announced. The traffic senator Manja Schreiner (45, CDU) announced that of the 19 tested cycle path planning along main streets in ten districts 16 can be built. The checks could be completed within a good four weeks, which is considered a great success by Schreiner.
The approval of the cycle paths in Schöneberg is particularly gratifying. Traffic city councilor Saskia Ellenbeck (Greens) has campaigned for cycle paths on the main street (between Dominicusstraße and U-Bhf. Kleistpark) and Grunewaldstraße (between Bamberger Straße and U-Bhf. Kleistpark). It describes the decision as a positive signal.
In addition, other bike paths were released by the Senate. These include the Hansastraße in Weißensee with a length of 1.55 km, the Grellstraße in Prenzlauer Berg with 2.47 km, the northern part of Köpenicker Landstraße and Bulgarian Strasse in Treptow with a length of 3.6 km, Hermannstrasse in Neukölln with 1.42 km, Hellersdorfer Strasse with an Ernst-Bloch-Straße in Hellersdorf with a length of 50 m Siegfriedstrasse in Lichtenberg with 495 m and the Sonnenallee in Neukölln with 1.13 km.
Other bike paths that were approved by the Senate are the eagle frame in Treptow-Köpenick with a length of 2.64 km, the opera route in Charlottenburg with 4.1 km, the Michael Bridge in Friedrichshain with 120 m, Scharnweberstraße in Friedrichshain with 360 meters, the Silesian Straße, Köpenicker Straße, Bethannicen Bridge in Kreuzberg with a length of 3.8 km, Scheffelstraße, Möllendorffstraße and S-Bahn Bridge in Lichtenberg with 1 km as well as Gülzower Straße, Gutenbergstraße and Hellersdorfer Straße in Hellersdorf with 327 meters.
However, three cycle paths have to be put back for the time being. It is the Stubenrauchstraße in Neukölln, the Roedernallee in Reinickendorf and the Blankenfeld Chaussee in Blankenfelde.
The release of the new cycle paths is an important step for promoting bicycle traffic in Berlin. By expanding the cycle path network, cyclists offer a safe and efficient infrastructure, which has a positive effect on the traffic situation and the climate in the city.
