GdP demands: Netflix subscription and knife amnesty with voluntary delivery of illegal knives
The police union (GdP) is committed to more public security in Germany and would like to remove forbidden and dangerous knives from private hands. In view of the increasing number of cases, the GdP calls for a new knife amnesty and a simplification of German weapons law.
The GdP chairman, Kopelke, emphasized the need for long-term structural adjustments to the binding regulation of knives in public. The current German weapons law lacks clarity when dealing with knives. The GdP therefore proposes a simplification to make the content of the law more understandable.
In order to support the process of illegal knife delivery, the GdP suggests offering the owner of serious incentives. For example, a banned knife type could be exchanged for one year of free Netflix subscription.
The union basically advocates a knife ban, but emphasizes that this requires increased controls. In order to ensure the reliable implementation of these controls, additional staff and improved equipment are necessary for the police.
The GDP is the largest advocacy of police officers in Germany and is committed to the future viability of the police and for security and social policy.
