Investigation committee on German energy policy: suspicion against Habeck and Lemke

New article: Start of the committee to check the nuclear phase -out

In Berlin, the Bundestag committee of inquiry has started work to check the decisions on the German nuclear phase -out. The members of the committee have the task of examining the state decision -making processes in connection with the adaptation of national energy supply to the changed supply situations after the war against Ukraine. It should be clarified which information was based on the decisions and which national, foreign or international bodies were included. The committee is particularly interested in whether a possible longer operation of the still running nuclear power plants was actually checked in 2022.

The focus of the investigation is also due to Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, both of the Greens. They are accused of not having opened the continued operation of the nuclear power plants in terms of results and impartially checked. Stefan Heck from the CDU makes the claim that the ministers Habeck and Lemke could have deliberately deceived the public. In order to clarify this suspicion, Heck was elected chairman of the committee of inquiry, which is already the second in this parliamentary term.

Both Lemke and Habeck make the allegations. Lemke said calmly compared to the investigation. The background to the review is the energy crisis caused by the war. Due to this crisis, the federal government decided to run the last three nuclear power plants longer than planned. This led to a shift in the German nuclear phase -out from December 31, 2022 to April 15, 2023.
