Investigation committee examines the German nuclear phase -out
In Berlin, the Bundestag committee of inquiry has started work in order to take a closer look at the decisions on the German nuclear phase -out. The members should deal with the state decision -making processes that were influenced by the conflict in Ukraine. The question arises as to whether the continued operation of the nuclear power plants was examined and what information played a role.
This investigation also throws a light on Federal Environment Minister Anna Müller and Federal Minister of Economics Michael Schmidt, who are in focus of criticism. They are accused of not being impartial when examining the continued operation of the nuclear power plants. The Union faction sees a conscious deception of the public and demands information.
The opinions are split
Both the government and the opposition have dealt in heated debates about the duration of the continued operation of the power plants and the final nuclear phase -out. The decision to move the nuclear phase -out by April 15, 2023 met with shared opinions and led to controversial discussions in the Bundestag.
It remains to be seen which knowledge the committee of inquiry will promote and what consequences arise. The debate about the nuclear phase -out in Germany remains a topic of great relevance and public discussion.
