Ukrainian truck strengthens the CSD parade in Berlin: a sign of unity and strength

The CSD parade in Berlin receives support from Ukraine this year. A Ukrainian column will set a "sign of unity and strength" under the motto "Be Pride Like Ukraine". According to estimates, around 500,000 people will visit the Pride demonstration for Christopher Street Day (CSD) next Saturday.

Despite the ongoing war and the daily tragic deaths, the organizers want to invite their European partners and all allies who support Ukraine's struggle for freedom to combine with the deep feeling of survival, freedom and equality. This should be a demonstration of solidarity to draw attention to the current events in Ukraine.

A special novelty this year is the official support of the Ukrainian truck through the message of Ukraine. The Ukrainian ambassador Oleksii Makeiev will give a short speech at the beginning of the move to support the LGBTQ+community in Ukraine.

The CSD goes back to the events in 1969 in New York, when police officers stormed the "Stonewall Inn" bar in Christopher Street and thus triggered an uprising of gays, lesbians and transsexuals. Since then, Christopher Street Day has been celebrated worldwide to draw attention to the concerns and rights of the LGBTQ+community.

The route of the Berlin CSD demonstration is already known to many participants: the move starts on Saturday at 12 noon in Mitte on Leipziger Strasse, near the Spittelmarkt underground station. From there, the parade runs along the east-west axis and passes the Federal Council and Potsdamer Platz before turning into the street of the same name. After the Landwehr Canal was crossed, the parade turned into Bülowstrasse and later reaches Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg, which is known as the meeting point for the queer community.

We continue to Karl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Straße, where the demo train passes Lützowplatz and runs towards the victory column. The parade at the Brandenburg Gate ends at 4.30 p.m., where a final rally takes place with various speeches and musical interludes. This year the Christopher Street Day is calling for "Be their Voice - and ourur!" More empathy and solidarity for the queer community.

The CSD in Berlin is therefore not only a colorful and happy event, but also an important demonstration for equal rights and more acceptance for the LGBTQ+community. With the support from Ukraine, this year's parade will certainly be particularly international and diverse.
