On June 18, 2024, a worrying incident was discovered during a check in Grünau, on regatta road No. 158. A borehole was found on an 88-year-old linden tree (tree number Ü158/4), which extends 75 centimeters deep into the rootstock of the tree. It is believed that unknown people try to kill the 21 -meter -high tree. The road and green space office has already started an investigation and the crime was displayed by the police. The damage is estimated at several thousand euros.

This is not the first incident of this kind in the region. In 2021, a similar case was found on an approximately 200 year old oak nearby. In August 2013, a 100-year-old linden tree was also killed in the same place by a similar method. Both trees had to be felled. The series of tree damage in this area is alarming and raises questions about the protection and safety of trees in the city.
