Refurbishment of the St. Laurentius City Church in Köpenick: federal and state funds enable partial renovation that are suitable for historical monuments
The St. Laurentius Stadtkirche in Köpenick will be renovated extensively in the coming years, thanks to the financial support of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM) and the State of Berlin. The district office Treptow-Köpenick provides up to € 2,000,000.00 in order to enable the church to be partially renovated. The measures include the renovation of the roof structure, the pollutant renovation of the roof structure and the inner wooden components, as well as the renewal of the building technology systems.
The St. Laurentius Stadtkirche was built between 1838 and 1841 according to a design by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm Butzke and is located in the old town of Köpenick. Due to its construction period and historical surface version, the church is an important example of the national cultural heritage.
District Mayor Oliver Igel emphasized the urgency of the renovation of the city church, as it is a formative monument to the old town of Köpenick. The parish will implement the renovation measures as the client in cooperation with own funds, as well as federal and state funds.
