Revitalization of the Treptower Park: Last construction phase starts in October

The Treptower Park will soon shine in new splendor! From the week of October 14, 2024, the street and green space office will go into the final phase of the grandiose renovation of this Berlin jewelry with a full turbo. At the beginning of November, the first work in the southern area of the park is due, which spreads directly south of the Puschkinallee. Not only is it tinkered here, but also dug up: road construction, clearing and planting work are on the agenda. An exciting tendering process is running for this massive transformation!

Why is that important? Because the Treptower Park is not just a simple park, but a true jewel with a historical charm! Here the original landscape character from past days is revived. Sustainable upgrading and promotion of biological diversity are just as important as the creation of historical structures that should enrich the experience for all visitors.

Extensive measures for a natural paradise

The impressive plans include the restoration of historic path connections and the refrigeration of existing asphalt paths, which are replaced by environmentally friendly water -bound coverings. And that's not all! A total of 36 trees are felled, but in return there are 103 new trees - a true reforestation campaign!

The renovation measures include a huge area of approx. 61,320 m². Here are the highlights:

  • departure of approx. 10,000 m² asphalt
  • New construction of approx. 21,000 m² of water -bound ceilings
  • new construction of 5,000 m² plasters for the perfect additions
  • clearing of 36 trees
  • planting of 103 new trees - nature comes back!
  • reorganization of about 15,000 m² of wood areas
  • Introduction of 40,000 m² new lawns for relaxed days outdoors
  • installation of 50 new benches
  • Introduction of 40 new waste containers for more cleanliness

a park in the metamorphosis

The completion of the paths in the western parking part is planned by the end of 2025, while the eastern areas are expected to be finished in the summer of 2026. The clearing and planting work run over two winter (2024/25 and 2025/26), followed by care work by 2028- this will be a gigantic conversion!

But be careful, dear park visitors! During the extensive construction work, parts of the Treptower Park will be difficult to access by 2026. In order to ensure a safe and quick progress of the work, the responsible persons ask to avoid cordoned off areas - even if that sometimes means a small detour.

Dr. Claudia Leistner, district councilor for urban development, is enthusiastic: "The Treptower Park is one of the most beautiful green and recreational plants that the district has to offer. It is a great gift that we are given the opportunity to renovate the garden monument comprehensively and thus increase the quality of stay in the southern park."

For this impressive project, more than 7 million euros in funding are secured - an investment in the green future of Berlin. The project "Treptower Park, southern parking part - last construction phase" is supported as part of the Berlin Sustainable Development 2 (Bene 2) program - the future is written here!
