In view of the current flame of violent anti -Semitism in the Middle East and its consequences in Berlin, representatives of the district office would like to set an example with artistic means. They emphasize that Jews belong to Germany and their religious and cultural life should be under the special protection of the state.
The concert is led by Kantor Yoed Sorek from Hanover and Jacobus Gladziwa on the organ. Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's “memorial service” is performed, a composer and pianist who fled the USA in 1939 to the USA. The Synagogal Ensemble Berlin under the direction of Regina Yantian and Tobias Unterberg and Anna B. also contribute to performance.
The Köpenick Synagogen Concerto takes place just a few steps away from the location of the former synagogue and revives a tradition that was interrupted by the pandemic. The first two concerts in 2018 and 2019 were already very successful. Admission is free, however, registration is required at events@ba-tk.berlin.de.
The Jewish synagogue in freedom 8 in 1910 was demolished and desolated by SA members on November 9, 1938. During the Second World War, she suffered further damage from bombing and was then demolished. Today only a simple plaque is reminiscent of the former church.
