Dangerous situations in front of schools: regulatory office controls school routes!
In the past two weeks, the Treptow-Köpenick regulatory office has carried out intensive focus controls to secure school routes. This happened in the run -up to the new school year and comprised a total of around 30 schools in the district. The authorities in particular want to sensitize parents and road users to the dangers that young and often inexperienced students are exposed to in road traffic.
A big problem that noticed during these controls are incorrectly parked vehicles in the school area. These can cause visual impairments and thus endanger the safety of the children. In addition, the frequent so -called "parent taxis" lead to dangerous situations. The controls of the general order service led to the determination of around 230 violations, whereupon the administrative offense procedure was initiated in 160 cases. There were also almost 70 oral warnings. In four cases, vehicles were implemented that were a special hazard.
attention in the school area
Problematic holding and parking violations often occur in front of schools. It is particularly often violated against holding and parking in the second row, which can be dangerous, especially in confusing places. The regulatory office recommends that you waive the “parent taxi” if possible and instead bring the children to school by bike or public transport. In this way, not only the flow of traffic in front of the schools could be reduced, but also the awareness of children for risk situations in traffic could be sharpened.
For the parents, who nevertheless bring their children to school by car, the regulatory office encourages the following precautions:
- drive slowly and carefully in the field of school.
- Pay particular attention to children who may be on the road.
- only stick to permissible areas and let children get out on the sidewalk side.
- Avoid turning maneuvers over the sidewalk.
cycling to school
When children ride to school by bike, the regulatory office has additional recommendations. Children should drive on the sidewalk up to the age of 10 and push their bike when crossing the street. The wearing of a bicycle helmet is also urgently advised for the child and for the accompanying adult.
According to the road traffic regulations, children have to use the sidewalk with their bicycles up to the age of 8, which is an obligation to use. Children who are up to the age of 10 have the opportunity to use the sidewalk. In addition, children traveling younger who are younger than 8 years old can be accompanied by a supervisor of over 16 years. In such cases, it is particularly important to consider pedestrians.
The controls carried out and the lively exchange with parents and other participants mostly showed acceptance and understanding of the measures taken for the safety of children in road traffic. Further information on these topics can also be found on the website of www.berlin.de Appointment.
