Transphobic attack on a trans wife is repeated at the Berlin Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde
The grave of a trans woman at the Berlin Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde was reduced again. This is not the first time that such an incident occurs. On Sunday morning it was found that the tomb in the Lichtenberg district was wrapped with fire department and a sticker was attached with a warning symbol. The police announced on Monday that the state security responsible for politically motivated crimes at the State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation into resting the dead.
As early as April of this year and in January 2021, the final resting place of the trans woman who died in September 2021 was also desecrated. The police assume that a transpose motivation could be behind the deeds.
The central cemetery Friedrichsfelde is not only known for such unfortunate incidents. The cemetery also houses the graves of some famous personalities. Among other things, Karl Liebknecht (1871-1919) and Rosa Luxembourg (1871-1919), important figures of the German labor movement, are buried here. In addition to them, many other personalities of the German labor movement have also found their final resting place here.
It is unfortunate that such hate offenses continue to take place at a time, in the tolerance and recognition of diversity. The police do everything possible to track the perpetrators and to clarify these deeds. The dignity of the deceased must be respected and such desecration must not be accepted. It is important that society stands together and opposes intolerance and discrimination against any kind.
It remains to be hoped that the police investigation will lead to the perpetrator's captivation and that such incidents can be avoided in the future. Every person, regardless of gender, sexuality or identity, deserves respect and recognition - even beyond death.
