Transforming Solidarities: Berlin city society is researching engagement for social justice, tenant protection and climate protection at a kiosk of solidarity
Title: "Transforming Solidarities: The Kiosk of Solidarity in Berlin"
The importance of meeting places for urban society has become particularly clear in corona apandemia. The research project "Transforming Solidarities" is investigating how Berliners are involved in the inside, be it due to common interests or accidental encounters in urban life, for social justice, tenant protection, queer and migrant communities or climate protection. Researchers of various disciplines of the Berlin University Association work together with different collective and neighborhood projects of the city.
In order to promote social cohesion in Berlin, the health and migration researchers involved have developed the "kiosk of solidarity". Since this summer, events with the initiatives involved have been taking place at various locations where the mobile kiosk is set up.
The next stop of the kiosk is located in a occupied house on Habersaathstraße 40-48 in Mitte. From July 15 to 20, a diverse program will take place there every day from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The kiosk then moved to the courtyard of the University of the Arts (Hardenbergstrasse 33) from July 21 to 23 and is dedicated to discussions about climate change.
A conference on the project is planned for October, in which the discussions and encounters at the kiosk are also to be evaluated. The campaign is curated by architect Moritz Ahlert, who emphasizes that the response of all actors involved is very positive. You are already thinking about continuing the project next summer. Financing takes place by the Mount of Berlin University Alliance by March 2024.
The "Kiosk of Solidarity" thus offers a platform for the exchange and the encounter between the people in Berlin. It enables the city's various social movements and commitment areas to get to know, while a dialogue is led to how solidarity can be lived in the city. The close cooperation between science, collective and neighborhood projects creates a lively place that helps to promote social justice in Berlin and to find sustainable solutions for current social challenges.
