International Day of Rome*Nja: District Tempelhof-Schöneberg recognizes culture and history
The International Day of Rome*Nja, which takes place annually on April 8, serves to call the situation of the Sinti*Zze and Rome*Nja into awareness and celebrate their culture. This day is reminiscent of the first international Roma congress, which took place in London in 1971 and campaigned for social justice and equality. The Tempelhof-Schöneberg district also supports these goals and is committed to disadvantages.
District Mayor Jörn Oltmann emphasizes the importance of Rome*NJA flag, which is raised on the international day of Rome*Nja to honor the history, culture and language of the Sinti*Zze and Rome*Nja. The flag ranging in Berlin districts was established on the initiative of the Amaro foro e.V.
In addition to the celebration of the international day of Rome*Nja, the “Knowledge Campaign Romaday24” takes place this year. This campaign aims to spread knowledge about life and history of the Sinti*Zze and Rome*Nja in Berlin schools. The Hildegard Lagrenne Foundation and its psychosocial educational advice Amari Zor carry out the campaign in cooperation with the self-organizations Romatrial e.V. and the Association of German Sinti and Roma Baden-Württemberg.
For more information on these events and the history of the Sinti*Zze and Rome*Nja, interested parties can visit the website of the Amaro Foro e.V. and the Hildegard Lagrenne Foundation. It turns out that the international day of the Rome*Nja is an important opportunity to draw attention to the concerns and culture of this minority and to stand up for respect and equality.
