The focus on foot traffic: New traffic -calmed area opened in Monopolstraße

District Councilor Dr. Saskia Ellenbeck carried out the symbolic opening of the traffic -calmed area on Monopolstraße in Mariendorf on May 30, 2024. Together with representatives of the residents and the Benn (Berlin develops new neighborhoods), she informed you about the project, which aims to strengthen the foot traffic and to improve security in the listed monopoly settlement.

The measure includes the introduction of walking speed in Monopolstrasse and parts of the adjacent Finkenweg and Schwalbenweg. Pedestrians now have priority on the street, while the newly marked parking spaces keep the towing curves for waste disposal vehicles and the Berlin fire brigade freely. This ensures that the escape routes are not blocked in the event of a fire.

The marking work was completed in April 2024 after the residents had been informed in advance about the redesign of the area. Despite the rainy weather, many residents and interested parties came to the symbolic opening to ask questions and to bring their ideas for future adjustments that could further improve the quality of life on Monopolstrasse.

Overall, the redesign of Monopolstraße is an important step to increase traffic safety and promote walking. The participation of the residents and the consideration of their ideas show that the local communities have received the project positively and are ready to work for sustainable development.

A table with relevant information could, for example, contain the changes before and after the redesign of Monopolstraße, the number of residents and the average speed of the vehicles in the street. This would enable readers to get a clear overview of the effects of the project and to recognize the positive changes in the community.
