Clear out for environmental protection: Kieztage start in Mariendorf!

As part of the efforts to improve waste management in Berlin, a new offer for waste disposal will be opened this weekend. Private households in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district can now release bulky waste, electrical devices and old textiles in the courtyard of the Mariendorf residential park free of charge. This offer represents an important step in the direction of a more environmentally friendly and resource-saving waste management, such as the

support for the citizens'

The mobile service complements the existing bulky waste collection and the stationary recycling courtyards from the Berlin city cleaning companies (BSR). The aim is to motivate the population in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, clear out the basement and attic and thus actively make a contribution to avoidance. The initiative is part of a broader strategy that is defined in a current waste management concept for the State of Berlin. This defines measures to avoid, reuse and recycling waste for the years 2020 to 2030.

The waste management concept pursues ambitious goals. For example, the settlement waste volume is to be reduced by 20 percent by 2030. At the same time, it is planned to increase the recycling rate for mineral waste to 64 percent and to promote the extensive recovery of phosphorus from sewage sludge ash. A central element of the concept is the guiding principle “Zero Waste”, which aims to continuously reduce waste and to promote ecological fabric cycles.

climate protection and resource conservation

By implementing the waste management concept, the focus is not only on environmental protection. It is expected that the measures will also lead to the climate-fitting relief of around 938,641 mg CO2-AQ/A and a saving of around 2,200,000 tons of primary raw materials per year. The EU waste hierarchy, which includes five stages-from avoiding the preparation to reuse and recycling to energetic recovery-forms the basis of all efforts.

Finally, it can be said that the new offers in Tempelhof-Schöneberg not only provide answers to current waste problems, but also make a contribution to the achievement of the environmental goals in Berlin. The activities in the region are part of a more comprehensive plan that puts sustainability and climate protection at the center of the Berlin waste management, as also from berlin.de is presented.
