Tariff conflict at ARD: Unions demand solution - ARD rejects
drama at the ARD! The chairman Kai Gniffke, also director of the SWR, makes the negotiations on higher tariffs fail. In a surprising step, he vigorously rejected the proposal of the unions ver.di, DJV and unison for collective bargaining! Success in the discussions that have been going on for over nine months? Utopian! A slap in the face for the more than 30,000 ARD employees who hope for fairer wages.
The unions said that their efforts to reach an agreement failed. This happened at the beginning of September - when the unions declared negotiations for failed and insisted on arbitration. But what happened then shocked everyone: once to be scheduled for October 1st, the clarification should serve, but the ARD had completely different plans!
missing conversation table and new fronts
Just when one wanted to have hope for an agreement, Gniffke excluded the possibility of a tariff solution in advance - before the table was covered for the conversations! The participation of a fourth organization (VRF) from the ARD universe that has not yet been involved caused heated discussions. In response to this, the unions ver.di and unanimously withdrew their willingness to take part in the talks. An open and cooperative cooperation looks different!
Christoph Schmitz-Dethlefsen, Federal Executive Board member of ver.di, raised the alarm: "The ARD managers are in their negotiating strategy. Without neutral intermediaries, it will be nothing with a solution! The previous offers are miles away from the demands of our members!" Here there is an open conflict that could plunge the ARD into a whirlpool of dissatisfaction.
The mood is tense
No end in sight! The broadcasters and ZDF experience how the negotiations are stalling. In the past week, strikes testify to the tense situation that affects not only the employees but the entire public. Because this is about the professional future of many people and ultimately also about the quality of the radio!
This development could be one of the most exciting tariff groups in the history of the German Radio. We stay on the ball!
