Super E10: The climate-friendly petrol trend spreads out

Part of the petrol sales increases, but still a lot of potential for more climate protection / Super E10 on the advance

across Europe

In Germany and all of Europe, Super E10 is gaining more and more popularity as fuel. In the meantime, this fuel can be refueled with an admixture of up to ten percent climate -friendly bioethanol in 20 countries in Europe. The proportion of Super E10 in petrol consumption continues to increase in Germany, as the Federal Association of German Bioethanol Economics (BDBE) and the Fuels and Energy Association (EN2X) determine. For reasons of climate protection, more and more European neighboring countries are spreading the petrol variety E5 from their petrol station offer, since almost all of the Su10 petrol engines can be easily tolerated.

Super E10 ensures a significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional petrol. BDBE managing director Stefan Walter explains: "The CO2 savings achieved by the use of bioethanol compared to pure fossil petrol have almost doubled in recent years. We are currently over 90 percent of around 48 percent in 2011." This makes Super E10 an effective and inexpensive way to improve climate protection in road traffic.

The general manager of En2x, Christian Küchen, emphasizes that Super E10 is also becoming increasingly popular in Germany because it is attractive in terms of price. The market share rose from around 13 percent in 2017 to more than 28 percent. Due to the addition of bioethanol, more than three million tons of CO2 are saved annually in Germany. Nevertheless, the climate protection potential of renewable fuels has not yet been exhausted due to higher shares. Since the introduction of Super E10 in 2011, many vehicles have been replaced by newer petrol engines who can easily tolerate Super E10. The potential for the use of E10 has therefore increased enormously and should be used by drivers.

More and more European countries are switching to Super E10, while Super E5 is abolished in some countries. Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and some Scandinavian countries have already abolished Super E5 fuels as so -called protection varieties and replaced them with Super E10. This step is justified with the increasing climate protection goals and the fulfillment of EU requirements. Travelers now find Super E10 at petrol stations in Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and in Austria. This fuel with reduced CO2 emissions is standardized across Europe.

Super E10 can be refueled by almost all gasoline cars without restrictions. Vacation travelers who drive to other European countries by car or borrow a rental car there can receive all information about the tolerance of Super E10 for your vehicle at www.e10tanken.de.
