Strike at Bad Liebenwerda: Employees fight for higher wages!

On Tuesday evening at 10 p.m., the employees of the mineral sources Bad Liebenwerda proclaimed a warning strike. Organized by the Food Guest Gaststics Union (NGG), it should take 24 hours and aims to challenge fair wages. The background is the stagnant collective bargaining between the NGG and the parent company Rhön-Sprudel.

The NGG requires a wage increase of at least 8.5 percent, while the company only offered an increase of three percent. The central dispute concerns the wage differences compared to a sister plant of the company in Hesse, where a newly concluded collective agreement increases wages and thus increasing the current difference from 11.4 percent to 14.9 percent. For specialists in Bad Liebenwerda, this means a monthly difference of almost 400 euros.

consequences of the strike

As the union explains, the wage difference could increase to over 520 euros by the end of the year if the desired wage increase is not implemented. The mineral springs Bad Liebenwerda are part of the Rhönsprudel group and employ around 240 employees. In addition to mineral water, products such as Club Cola and Sprequell are also produced at this location.

To discuss the next steps, a strike assembly of the employees is planned for today. The NGG emphasizes that it is not only about the current wages, but also about aligning the conditions for better tariffs in Hesse.

right to strike in general services

strikes are an important instrument for employees to enforce their interests. This also applies to areas that are considered to be a general public service, where demands for fair working conditions often encounter resistance. The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) emphasizes that a flat -rate restriction of strike rights with constitutional and European rights is not compatible. The NGG and other unions therefore decidedly reject claims for long notice periods or mandatory arbitration proceedings.

The current strike is an example of the struggle for adequate working conditions that not only benefit the employees, but also to the general public by reducing hurdles in the labor market and promoting a fair distribution of wages.

The situation at the mineral sources Bad Liebenwerda illustrates that the fight for fair wages is a central topic that affects the entire industry. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the negotiations develop and what effects the strike will have on production and employees.
