Serves and knowledge: an unforgettable evening at Lichtenberg Castle

The Lichtenberg Castle becomes the meeting point for astronomy enthusiasts when the Rheinpfalz entered its readers to observe the nocturnal Perseid. On a clear Monday evening, the participants experienced unforgettable moments under the starry sky.

an expert look at the meteore

At the legendary Lichtenberg Castle, which impresses with its impressive story, the terrace of the geoscope turned into a primary observation field. There, at 10 p.m. 22 interested hobby astronomers gathered to observe the annual show of the meteor current, the Perseiden. Martin Bertges, a leading astronomy expert and active member of the Astronomy and Geophysics working group, offered an exciting introduction to the theory behind the meteors. "Today there are optimal conditions for the sky observation," he noticed with a smile while the clear sky was shining above them.

an evening full of wishes and astonishment

The group collected was quickly infected by the fascination of the shooting stars. When the first meteors appeared in the sky, the spectators spontaneously reacted with a loud "Ah". Marianne Drees, who was present with her husband Dieter, was particularly enthusiastic. "Astronomy is complicated, but incredibly fascinating," she said. Jürgen and Heidrun Vollmar also reported that they had missed the Northern Lights and now took the chance to see the Perseids.

tips for watching heaven

Bertges not only used the opportunity for explanations, but also gave the participants practical tips on the observation of heaven. "Pull yourself back to a dark place where there are no disturbing lights. Believe me, your eyes will see more than you think," he encouraged the spectators. He also explained that in real darkness the northern light, the Aurora, would have been visible, which further increased the atmosphere of the evening.

a new chapter for astronomy lovers

This event marked a premiere for the Lichtenberg Castle, which goes back to the Kusel editor's proposal. With the help of Herbert Wagner, another member of the working group, the atmosphere became a link between knowledge and a common passion for astronomy. "The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experiences made the evening something very special," summed up the participants.

The night of the shooting stars

The balance of this impressive event was remarkable: one participant counted an incredible 35 star snippers during the evening, which exceeded the expectations of many. The children, who took part in the observation, had already realized their wishes. At 0.30 a.m. the last participants made their way home, but the memories of this enchanting night will stay in their hearts and heads for a long time
