Cities partnership in times of crisis: Nahariya and Tempelhof-Schöneberg strengthen bonds
The city of Nahariya, in the north of Israel and near the Lebanese border, has been undergoing tests in recent months. After the devastating attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023 and months of rocket attacks by the Hezbollah, a ceasefire was lucky on November 27, 2024. At a meeting between Mayor Ronen Marelly and district mayor Jörn Oltmann in Berlin, the challenges and solidarity were discussed during this difficult time. Marelly thanked the partner municipalities of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Bielefeld and Darmstadt for their support and presented an illustrated book that documents the destruction in Nahariya, reported berlin.de .
In the past few days, however, the situation in Nahariya has dramatically intensified. Last Sunday, the residents were ordered three times for the bomb warning in shelter, as drone sirens sounded. A drone crash on a building marked the first direct hit since the beginning of the conflict, which further strained the already tense nerves of the citizens. Mayor Marelly explained that the city had returned to normal, but a final decision on the school opening was only announced on Monday morning, reports increased threat from Hezbollah
Siren has also repeatedly heard in the city of Acre in the past few days, which once again came into focus of the dangers, which was enjoyed by four months of relative calm. At the same time, the city of Katzrin, the largest city in Golan, received strong rocket fire, which resulted in numerous fires. Firefighting teams, supported by six fire -fighting aircraft, fought for hours against the flames. In Nahariya and also in Katzrin, the citizens remain in their apartments despite the increased attacks, since many buildings do not have paved shelters.
