City cycles in Berlin: District Office Spandau calls for participation
From May 30 to June 19, the annual city bike campaign takes place again in Berlin, in which teams cover as many kilometers as possible by bike in order to make a contribution to climate protection. The Spandau district office takes part with its own team and district mayor Frank Werwig calls all the spandauers to form teams and also to notify. Each kilometer counts for the overall result of the Spandau district in competition with other districts.
District Mayor Frank Werwig emphasizes the importance of bicycle as an important means of transport for health and climate protection. By switching to the bike instead of the car, greenhouse gas emissions can be avoided. The city cycling campaign therefore offers the opportunity to strengthen the team feeling and to become active for a better environment.
City bike is an international campaign by the Climate Alliance e.V., which is about motivating as many people as possible to switch to the bike. Motorized traffic causes around 19 % of the annual greenhouse gas emissions in Spandau. The Federal Environment Agency has calculated that about 300 kilograms of CO2 can be saved every year by driving five kilometers.
The campaign in Berlin is organized by the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection and supported by the ADFC Berlin e.V. In 2023, as many Berliners, as never before, took part in the city cycling, a total of 27,942 people swung on the bike for a good climate.
Interested parties can register at Stadtradeln.de/berlin and join the “#Offenes district team Spandau” team or register their own team. By participating in city cycles, everyone can help protect the environment and actively do something for climate protection.
