Parkchaos on the banks of the Havel: Tenants are annoyed by parking tickets and bad planning!

In the new Havelufer district in Berlin-Spandau, tenants face a large dilemma: they live in an attractive residential area on the water, but the parking lot situation is catastrophic. Despite the existing underground car park, the parking spaces must not be used, since - finished for two years - it remains closed due to private acceptance. Resident Sabine Wobbe (62) is frustrated: "It is a bad planning if you build so many apartments and do not provide any parking spaces," she reports on bz-berlin.de .

The residents are forced to park their cars on the surrounding streets, an attempt that often fails. Strict stops and the continuous controls by the Spandau district office mean that around 4,500 violations are registered per month. The result is numerous nodules, each of 25 euros. Rüdiger Ebert (46) has already received five tickets and complains: "The city failed when planning!"

regulations and challenges

According to the district office, there is no obligation to create additional parking spaces, since Berlin abandoned the parking space obligation years ago. Tenant Wobbe emphasizes that this leads to the grievances and demands that this grievance will soon be remedied: "We finally need solutions!" The district office has announced that the first steps to solve the problem and a planned meeting with the road traffic authority should take place in early 2025. Housing, which offers space for 1,800 apartments on 107,000 square meters, is to be completed next year, but the pressing parking lot problems will remain until then.

In a parking space management zone, residents are entitled to apply for a parking permit to facilitate parking. However, it is important to note that even with this ID there is no claims to a specific parking lot. The application procedures can be carried out both online and on site in the respective district offices, as explained on Service.berlin.de The fees for this are between 10.20 and 20.40 euros, which, according to residents, is additional stressful. The situation remains tense, because the residents urgently need a practicable parking concept to avoid stress and fines.
