Memorial ceremony for lonely deceased: Church and District Office Spandau invite you to the funeral service
On January 28, 2024, a commemoration for deceased will take place in the St. Nikolai Church Spandau who have no relatives or were center. This is already the fifth cross -denominational commemoration, which is organized by the Evangelical Church Circle of Spandau and the Spandau district office. During the celebration, the names of the lonely deceased of the past year are read and lights lit for them. District Mayor Frank Werbig and the responsible district councilor for youth and health Tanja Franzke will take part in the commemoration and speak a greeting.
The commemoration serves to give the deceased a name for death and to commemorate them in dignity. Superintendent of the Evangelical Church Circle Spandau, Florian Kunz, emphasizes the importance that the deceased does not get into anonymity, but that they get a dignified farewell. All citizens are cordially invited to take part in the commemoration and to take flowers or personal objects as a sign of commemoration.
Background information shows that deceased who are penniless and have no closest relatives are buried. If the authorities fail to determine relatives of the deceased, these deceased are considered lonely.
The commemoration is an important act of appreciation and respect for the deceased who have ended their lives alone and without relatives. The cross -denominational cooperation between the Evangelical Church District Spandau and the Spandau district office shows that dignity and respect for life and death are important regardless of denomination or social position. The commemoration gives people the opportunity to remember the deceased together and to give them a worthy farewell.
