Berlin: State Secretary visits community hospital and drug help in Spandau

The Berlin State Secretary of Health Ellen Haußdörfer visited today as part of her regular Spandau district tour. Together with the local district councilor for youth and health, Tanja Franzke, the State Secretary found out about the work of the Havelhöhe community hospital and the outpatient clinic for integrated drug help (A.I.D.) Spandau. In exchange with experts, the politicians talked about practical strategies for good district health care.

The Community Hospital Havelhöhe, an acute hospital and academic teaching hospital of the Charité, offers a wide range of health care in the Spandau district with a total of 14 departments. The hospital relies on anthroposophical medicine and looks at people holistically in its specific living environment. The State Secretary and the district councilor found out particularly about the emergency room and the departments for psychosomatics and addiction medicine.

The outpatient clinic for integrated drug help near the Spandau train station was reopened in October 2023. With a multi -professional team of addiction doctors and social workers, the outpatient clinic offers substitution treatments, comprehensive medical care and accompanying psychosocial care. In addition, the Spax project was presented, which focuses on social work in public space with a focus on alcohol and addictive abuse.

Health policy in Berlin, in particular with regard to addiction prevention and treatment, is the focus of the discussions between State Secretary Haußdörfer, district councilor Franzke and the members of the Health Committee of the Spandau district assembly. Topics such as family medical care, creating more medical seats, effects of hospital reform and digitization for patients are discussed.

Overall, the visits and discussions of the politicians show the efforts and measures undertaken in Spandau in order to offer comprehensive and needs-based health care as well as effective drug and addiction aid. The cooperation between state institutions, medical specialist and social services illustrate the complexity and interdisciplinarity that are necessary in the health sector. The anthroposophical medicine of the Havelhöhe Community Hospital and the integrative drug help of A.I.D. Spandau are exemplary for the diverse offers and support measures in this area.
