Berlin: 150 trees planted in Spandau by city tree campaign
As part of the Berlin city tree campaign, the Spandau district office successfully planted 150 trees at selected locations in the district. The campaign was made possible by the financial support of the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment (SenMVKU) and offered the district office the opportunity to choose the tree species freely. This year's spring planting of young trees was completed on the international day of the tree.
City Councilor Thorsten Schatz was pleased with the course of the plantings and emphasized the importance of the Berlin city tree campaign for the appearance and quality of life of the Spandau district. The 17 new oaks of the ‘Fastigiata Koster’ variety, which were planted on the medium strip of the old town ring. These trees have a column -shaped figure and will form a slim, closed pyramid crown, which contributes to a pleasant and uniform street scene.
Since 2012, the SenmVKU city tree campaign has supported the district offices in planting and replicating road trees. The additional financing enables the districts to expand the plantings, which are also supported by donations from the Berlin population. This helps to maintain the green areas in the city and to improve the environmental balance.
