Modernization of the Hamburg-Berlin: Construction work start in 2025!
Hamburg, Deutschland - nag/nag editors -
A large construction project is imminent! Deutsche Bahn (DB) has awarded the construction contracts for the comprehensive renovation of the highly frequented railway line between Hamburg and Berlin. Despite the initial doubts about the schedule, which came through the traffic lights, the DB remains optimistic and continues the modernization as planned.
The orders concern the sections between Berlin-Spandau and Nauen as well as between Nauen and Büchen. A total of four companies, including the train group belonging to the DB, were commissioned to work. The remaining section between Büchen and Hamburg is to be awarded in April 2025. "This has no influence on the schedule for the general renovation," emphasizes the railway.
massive construction work and closures
The construction work begins in August 2025 and should continue until April 2026. During this time, the entire route between Hamburg and Berlin is blocked, which results in massive diversions for goods and passenger transport. The renewal of 181 kilometers of tracks, over 200 course and around 70 kilometers of overhead line are planned. In addition, the route between Berlin and Nauen and between Hamburg and Büchen will be equipped with the digital train protection system ETCS, while the section between Büchen and Nauen is only modernized from 2030.
The busy corridor, on which around 30,000 passengers are traveling every day, is part of a comprehensive renovation program of Deutsche Bahn. In the coming years, over 40 heavily frequented routes are to be modernized in order to increase the reliability of rail transport. Despite the financial uncertainties caused by the lack of supplementary budget of the federal government, the Union is ready to continue to support the renovation between Hamburg and Berlin.
