Silver Bear for ZDF/Arte-co-production 'die' | Matthias Glasner wins at the 74th International Film Festival Berlin
At the 74th International Film Festival in Berlin, the ZDF/Arte co-production "Die" by Matthias Glasner was awarded the silver bear for the best script. The three-hour film was made by ZDF program director Dr. Nadine Bilke refers to a family epic that revolves around topics such as family, love, age and death.
The story is about Lissy Lunies, a woman in mid -seventy, who is secretly pleased that she is in the nursing home. But her new freedom is short -lived, because it suffers from several diseases such as diabetes, cancer, kidney failure and the beginning blindness. The focus of the film is her son Tom Lunies, a conductor who works on a composition with the title "Die".
The film was produced by Port Au Prince Film & Kultur Production, Schwarzweiss Filmproduktion and Senator Film Production in Koproduktion with ZDF and in cooperation with Arte. It received support from various film funding and foundations.
In addition to "dying", other ZDF/Arte co-productions were also awarded at the international film festival. The film "Red Heaven" won the Silver Bear - Grand Prix of the Jury - and was named the best feature film in 2023. "The theory of everything" received the prize for the best film music, while Christina Große was awarded the price of German film criticism for her role in "Alaska".
Other awards went to the ZDF/Arte co-production "My Favourite Cake", which received the International Critics Prize Fipresci Award, as well as the "Safe" series, for which Caroline Link won the special Si Star. The film "Ivo" received the Heiner-Carow Prize of the DEFA Foundation for the best young film, and "Shahid" was awarded both the price of the "Confédération Internationale des Cinémas d’Art et d’Esai" and the Caligari film award. Finally, the documentary "Teaches of Peaches" won the Teddy Award for the best documentary.
These awards testify to the quality and variety of ZDF/Arte co-productions that were shown at the Berlinale. The films were recognized for their scripts, film music, acting and their thematic relevance.
