Security situation in Berlin: Police increase protective measures drastically!
In Berlin, the security situation after the Islamist terrorist attack on Israel is tense on October 7, 2023. The police are forced to monitor more than 1,000 endangered objects, including around 170 Jewish-Israeli facilities. Police President Barbara Slovik Meisel announced that additional forces for property protection must be mobilized. 1,500 property protection forces and around 400 enforcement officers are currently being deployed to ensure an effective presence in messages, synagogues and other endangered places, such as rbb24 reported.
Due to the increasing threat, personal protection and requirements at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) have also increased. More people, including political representatives and citizens, need protection, and the pressure on the specially trained bodyguards is immense. The additional protection needs are currently mainly covered by overtime. The police estimate that the personal protection of the State of Berlin is the second largest department of this kind in Germany, according to the Federal Criminal Police Office, which is responsible for the security of federal politicians.
success and challenges of the Kotti guard
In the light of the security situation, the police station at Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg has proven to be successful. Slovik Meisel emphasizes that the presence of the guard has significantly improved the feeling of security of the residents. Special feedback from young people show that they feel safer since the guard has been stationed there. This point of contact is an important way for many to express their concerns, especially with regard to drug crime in the area. The Kotti-Wache acting both as a permanent safety presence, as well as support for the fight against the continuing high crime rates, as reported.
Despite this progress, the situation remains critical, especially in the Dunken. Slovik Meisel continues to demand a nightly closure of the Görlitz park to defuse the crime -contaminated zone. The police are trying to make the park for criminals more unattractive to ensure the security of the residents and the quality of relaxation in the district.
