A new standard in patient care: the Helios sobriety concept

In the world of health care, the safety is the patient: inside of the greatest importance. The Helios Clinic Emil von Behring in Berlin has made a significant progress with its innovative sobriety concept, which has now been awarded second place at the German Prize for Patient Safety. This honor not only reflects the quality of medical care, but also shows how important it is to develop patient -centered approaches that focus on the well -being and safety of the patient.

Developed by the senior physician Dr. Anne Rüggeberg and chief physician Dr. Eike nickel, addresses the sobriety concept a well -known problem: Patient: Inside, many hours before an intervention of food and liquid often have to do without, which can bring unpleasant consequences such as dehydration. Studies show that overlying waiver of fluids not only affects the well -being of the patient: on the inside, but also increases the risk of postoperative complications.

A central component of the new approach is permission until short liquids such as water, coffee or tea can be used shortly before the operation. This is not only an improvement for the patient: inside, which feel more comfortable, but also corresponds to the latest European guidelines that have only recently been presented at an international anesthesia congress.

This concept also includes the use of so -called sustainability cards, which introduce a traffic light system to identify individual food intake. A green card allows flexible handling of liquids, while yellow and red cards are specific restrictions for patients: inside with previous illnesses or in critical health conditions. This visual presentation makes compliance with the new guidelines much easier for the medical staff.

The introduction of the sustainability concept is one of many measures that Helios takes to increase patient safety. The implementation of surgical security checklists is an example of another strategy that has been mandatory in all Helios clinics since 2009. In addition, statutory CIRS error registration systems are used to quickly identify and report potential risks. The disclosure of hygiene numbers and the publication of critical patient safety indicators underline the commitment of Helios for transparency and responsible use of patient data.

In view of the annual treatment services of over 5.5 million people in Germany, it becomes clear that Helios not only plays a leading role in the private health sector, but also has a significant influence on the security and well -being of the patient: inside. With the vision of constantly improving patient safety, the sobriety concept is now being rolled out across the street and also extended to other medical areas.

The German Prize for Patient Safety, which is awarded annually by the Action Alliance for Patient Safety, recognizes innovative projects that have been shown to increase the safety of the patient: inside. The award for the sobriety concept continues to promote the important vision of increasing quality and security in patient care.

Helios not only remains a health point for millions of people, but also relies on new standards in medical care that are based on security, transparency and innovation.
