Semiha Berksoy: The dazzling diva conquers the Hamburg train station!

The impressive retrospective about Semiha Berksoy in Hamburg's train station is a very special event. From December 6, 2024, art lovers and interested parties can marvel at the first comprehensive exhibition of the talented artist and opera singer in Germany. Semiha Berksoy, who is the first Muslim primadonna, inspired not only the Berlin audience with her voice, but also with her colorful painting between the 1930s and 2000s. The exhibition "Singing in Full Color" will show more than 80 paintings and work on paper and illuminates for over six decades of artistic creation of Berksoy, as well as her close connection to Berlin and her family, the painter Fatma Saime, such as the reported.

The exhibition deals with central topics in Berksoy's work, including their iconic roles in operas and their inspiration by important artists such as the poet Nazim Hikmet. Sam Bardaouil, the curator of the exhibition, explains that the multidisciplinary artist should be portrayed both as an opera singer and as a successful painter. With lively colors and a dynamic brush technology, Berksoy's creative energy is reflected in their work. The combination of opera and visual arts is particularly emphasized in the exhibition by presenting the paintings interactively as characters on a stage, such as rbb24 communicated.

Berksoy, who studied at the Music University of Music in 1936 to 1939, returned to Turkey in 1939 due to the Second World War, where it had a significant influence on the founding of the Turkish State Opera. Until old age, she was active as an opera singer and enchanted people in 2000 in the Lincoln Center in New York. The retrospective in Hamburg's train station runs until May 11, 2025 and promises a fascinating view of the remarkable life and the art of Semiha Berksoy, which, despite the challenges of her time, has never lost its creative expression.
