Self -medication in pain therapy: a way to more patient sovereignty

on October 17, on the occasion of the World Schamerztag, Pharma Germany's voice will be loud! The association calls for a revolution in pain therapy: self-medication and OTC switches are at the top of the agenda. These developments are not only important for the individuality of the patients, they are also a crucial step to relieve our overloaded health system.

"Chronic pain can be a real torture!" Warns Dr. Elmar Kroth, deputy general manager of Pharma Germany. "Self -medication is becoming more and more a key, especially for migraines. In this way, patients are given faster access to the medication they really need!" It is time for patients to take control of their health.

Germany in the pioneering role in pain therapy

A groundbreaking change has already started: the Migraine medicament Rizatriptan 5 mg has been over -the -counter since May! It is the fourth tripan that is now available without a prescription. Dr. Kroth proudly emphasizes: "Germany is a pioneer in the release of painkillers worldwide!" Who would have thought that in 2006 we introduced the first over -the -counter Naratriptan worldwide? Now, with rizatriptan, the patients have even more selection in treating their pain.

"We can trust the patient more personal responsibility!" Calls Kroth. "OTC switches, as with Rizatriptan, show that we can put people able to better manage their health while relieving the health system at the same time."

Health awareness of Germans grows

statistics show that 83 percent of Germans already rely on over -the -counter drugs in the event of slight symptoms. This trend for 30- to 39-year-olds is particularly sudden: a total of 94 percent use OTC products! In migraine therapy, in addition to rizatriptan, other triptans such as Almotriptan, Naratriptan and Sumatriptan are also over the counter. And where do people buy their medication? Almost 67 percent get over -the -counter medicines in the pharmacy and appreciate the competent advice of the pharmacists!

pharma Germany sees enormous potential in self -medication. The association is fighting for better integration of the medication change processes and wants them to be designed more transparently and efficiently for the future. This could help the patient to relieve their symptoms in a simple and effective way.

For further exciting information about self-medication and OTC switches, a look at the Pharma Germany website is worthwhile. The association, which represents over 400 member companies and almost 80,000 employees, plays an important role in ensuring the supply of drugs in Germany. This ensures a large part of the over -the -counter and prescription drugs!
