a place for history and culture
The over 275-year-old building has had a multifaceted story-from a mulberry tree plantation to a bourgeois country seat and home of the Hitler youth to a café and a daycare center. The new concept provides to establish the Schoeler-Schlösschen as a cultural location for creativity and exchange, with most of the rooms are still empty and are only used in full in the late 2025.
The future use of the house is associated with large plans. In cooperation with the public, a new permanent exhibition on the history of Schoeler-Schlösens will be created. Photos and memorabilia from past decades are sought to enrich the exhibition that is to be opened at the end of the year. Interested parties can also register for a three-month photography workshop with photographer Katrin Karras. The results of this workshop are to be presented in the house in spring 2026.
Citizens' participation in the focus
The initiatives around Schoeler-Schlösschen are in line with the recent efforts of the Berlin Senate to participate in the citizens' participation in urban development projects. On May 4, 2021, a implementation concept for promoting citizen participation in urban development was approved, which is based on the guidelines for participation decided in summer 2019. These guidelines were developed in the context of a participatory process and are intended to ensure that citizens: inside are actively involved in the design of their surroundings.
The implementation of these guidelines is considered to be a framework for action to ensure quickly and citizen -friendly development. In addition to the coordination of the administration, the Senate Department for Urban Development and Living has initiated a work process that is intended to facilitate the application of the guidelines. The goal is to ensure effective cooperation between the different administrative offices and thus promote citizen participation.
