Recognize the stroke: important citizen event in Spandau!
Berlin, Deutschland - Today, on June 5, 2025, an informative citizenship event on the subject of stroke took place in the Spandau town hall. The event was made by Prof. Dr. Jörg Müller, a renowned expert from the Vivantes Clinic. The focus of the event was the idea of the flyer "Stroke - quickly recognize and act", which provides important information on the recognition, emergency measures and treatment options of a stroke. The flyers were developed in cooperation with the Neurology Department of Stroke Unit and offer valuable information on how citizens can react in an emergency.
Tanja Franzke, district councilor for youth and health, impressively referred to the alarming number of around 270,000 strokes in Germany. Their goal is to clarify the population in the district and to emphasize the importance of fast action when suspected of a stroke. The flyer is aimed at all citizens and also contains information on typical signs of stroke as well as for medical care.
recognize and act: the fast test
A decisive part of the flyer is the fast test, which serves to quickly identify stroke symptoms. This test was developed for both medical specialists and lay helpers and focuses on basic motor and linguistic skills. The abbreviation almost stands for the following:
- face (face): smiles the person or frowns her?
- Arms (arms): can the person lift both arms and turn the palms?
- speech (language): is the language clear or does the person have difficulty speaking?
- time (time): How long have these symptoms exist?
When these symptoms are determined, it is essential to immediately call medical help. The faster treatment takes place, the better the chances of successful therapy. If necessary, a briefing should take place in a specialized stroke unit.
help offers for relatives
In addition to clarification about stroke prophylaxis, the network also offers support for relatives of stroke patients. An online guide who is available on the platform LaGfallehtung.de helps to find answers to frequent questions and problems. The aim is to encourage relatives and to support them in their role. The guide is intended to avoid frustration and disorientation and help to save time in care and support from close people.
In order to order the flyer "Stroke-Recognize and Act quickly", interested citizens can send an email to qpk@ba-spandau.berlin.de in which you can specify your name, the delivery address and the desired quantity. A digital version of the flyer is also available for download, so that everyone can use the information about the quick detection of a stroke.
