S -Bahn collides with van at the level crossing - train traffic between Altglienicke and Airport BER temporarily interrupted
On Monday, an accident occurred at the Bohnsdorfer Chaussee level crossing in Schönefeld, in which an S-Bahn and a van collided. The effects were noticeable for hours because the train traffic of the lines S45 and S9 between Altglienicke in Berlin and BER T5 Airport, the former Schönefeld Airport, was interrupted for several hours. In the meantime, however, the railway line has been released.
As a spokeswoman for the Federal Police told Bundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), the driver of the transporter had bypassed the barriers to the level crossing. When he noticed the approaching S-Bahn, he jumped out of his vehicle to get himself to safety.
Despite the emergency braking of the S-Bahn driver, the collision nevertheless occurred. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. There were 112 passengers in the affected S-Bahn at the time of the accident.
The incident was mentioned on July 24, 2023 at 2:24 p.m. in the RBB24 Inforadio and represents another case of carelessness in level crossings. It is important that road users respect the barriers to level crossings and show no risky behavior, as this can lead to dangerous situations and accidents.
level crossings should always be done with extreme caution. In the case of approaching trains, special mindfulness is required and it should never be tried to avoid the barriers. The traffic rules must be respected at all times to prevent accidents like this.
It is also important that road users take measures as quickly as possible in the event of a danger to bring themselves to safety. In this case, the transporter driver acted properly when he jumped out of his vehicle to avoid a possible collision.
The railway line is now released and train traffic is running again as usual. Nevertheless, this accident remains another memorial for the importance of traffic safety and the need to respect the rules in road traffic.
