Redesign of Zeltinger Platz: Rat problem requires renovation
renovation work on Zeltinger Platz: A look at the challenges and opportunities
The renovation work on Zeltinger Platz in Frohnau, which began on Monday, August 19, is not only a necessary step to restore the infrastructure, but also take a great job on the challenges with which the community is confronted. The need for significantly cutting on the vegetation on the Pergola, resulting from the request of the health department to combat a plague of rat, shows how closely nature and urban life are interwoven.
The discovery of numerous rat buildings in the root area of planting has led to intensive discussions among the population. The elimination of the rats can be considered the first, but decisive step in a greater fight against the contamination in urban areas. This situation illustrates what weight the public health system has in maintaining and renovating public spaces.
In the middle of the renovation work it was also known that the stability of the existing pergola is severely impaired. Parts of the parapet and individual steles have already collapsed, which quickly led to a security risk. For this reason, the street and green space office decided to secure the entire area with a construction fence to protect passers-by.
District Councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) commented on the current developments and emphasized: "The review of the stelae for their stability is a top priority. The upcoming results will help us adapt the procedures so that Zeltinger Platz can shine again in full splendor next year." This gives the community hope for a soon return to a safe and inviting place.
In the near future, it will also be planned to reopen the left staircase to the terrace, which enables a leadership and shows that despite the challenges there are also opportunities for improvement. This work on Zeltinger Platz is not only a measure against the plague of rat, but also a step towards a revitalized community in which public spaces are safe and appealing for all citizens.
Overall, the renovation work illustrates the multifunctional aspects of urban development - health issues, security and joint cohesion are in direct connection. It remains to be seen how the residents react to the developments, but the first steps in the right direction have already been initiated.
