New American red oak for Franz-Neumann-Platz

New American red oak for Franz-Neumann-Platz

In June 2023, the striking beech on Franz-Neumann-Platz had to be felled due to a fungal attack and the resulting lack of stability. Now a new American red oak tree is planted on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024. This tree is viewed as a climate silver and should withstand future weather conditions. The environmental city councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) is pleased with the new planting and emphasizes that Franz-Neumann-Platz has missed its "flagship" since the fall of the beech.

The optimal preparation for the tree contains the liberation of the trunk from rubble and the provision of special soil. An extensive irrigation system will also be set up for the care of the tree in the coming years. This new tree is intended to support the future space design and restore the usual atmosphere of the place.

The financing of the redesign of the Franz-Neumann-Platz takes place through the "Living Centers" funding program. City Development Councilor Korinna Stephan (B'90/Greens) emphasizes that the use of financial resources for large -scale construction and the short -term implementation by the district underlines the ambitions to strengthen Residenzstrasse and the district.

This new tree will not only be positive, but also contributes to the climate -like of urban development. The new planting shows that the city administration actively works for the green areas in the city. Franz-Neumann-Platz will receive an upgrading by restoring its trees and will continue to be a popular meeting place for citizens.
