Inclusion on the playground: New communication board in Reinickendorf

Inclusion on the playground: New communication board in Reinickendorf
a new era of inclusion at Falkenplatz
In an important initiative, the Reinickendorf district office today introduced a communication board on the Falkenplatz playground. This table, which was donated by the Angelman e.V. association, aims to facilitate communication among small playground visitors and thus promote the game together for all children.
The motivation behind this special measure comes from the personal experiences of Sabine Schindler and Erik Stange, whose daughter Maila was born with the Angelman syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by significant delays in physical and mental development as well as by severely limited loudspeaker skills. Parents like the sticks know first -hand how important it is that children who cannot communicate verbally also have a way to express their thoughts and feelings.
The communication board is designed with 66 specific symbols that enable children without language skills and those with limited language skills to contact in a simple manner. On the playground, the children can use these symbols to show what they want or how they feel without having to find the words for it. Terms such as "playing", "sliding" and "help" are shown on the board, which was specially designed for the interaction at the playground.
The introduction of this board is an important step towards inclusion. District City Councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) was pleased with the initiative and emphasized the importance of raising awareness of inclusion in society. She explained: "These measures can help change people's perspectives and promote awareness of inclusion. I appreciate the commitment of Maila's parents, which enables this positive change in the playground."
The Falkenplatz playground is centrally located at Rabenhorststraße 5, 13505 Berlin - Konradshöhe. This new inclusion measure not only draws attention to the needs of children with special requirements, but also sets a sign of a joint coexistence. Such initiatives promote integration and mutual understanding, which is of great importance for the development of the entire community.
