Basic training courses of the VHS Reinickendorf: reading, writing, and learning to arithmetic
The adult education center (VHS) Reinickendorf offers courses on basic education to offer support for people aged 16 and over who want to improve their reading skills, writing skills and math skills. According to the Society for German Language e. V. landed the word "unable to read" in 3rd place in the election for the word in 2023, which points out that more and more people in Germany have difficulty understanding written texts. This can also be seen in current educational comparisons such as PISA, in which German students read poorly in the subjects, cut out mathematics and natural sciences.
About ten percent of adults in Germany cannot read and write properly, even though they speak German. The Volkshochschule Reinickendorf offers basic training courses that deal with everyday topics from health, general knowledge and consumer protection, convey skills in dealing with the media and IT area and practice dealing with money and other mathematical skills. Learning in the group also strengthens personal and social skills.
Education City Councilor Harald Muschner (CDU) emphasizes the importance of basic education and, as the patron of the Alpha alliance Reinickendorf, is committed to bringing the topic more into the public. He points out that people with basic education need support to get started learning and encourages the environment of those affected, such as family, neighborhood, school or daycare center of children, college, advice centers and associations to help with this process.
The VHS courses start in January 2024, including "With mathematics simply better through life" (RE6200-F) and "Reading, writing and computers: Help for everyday life and work" (Re6101-F). An entry is possible at any time. More information and all courses can be found on the website www.vhs-reinickendorf.de.
