Common commemoration for freedom and unity: leaning in Reinickendorf
Memory of the victims of the Berlin Wall in Reinickendorf and Glienicke
Last weekend, representatives of the Reinickendorf and Glienicke district gathered to commemorate the victims of the Berlin Wall together. This commemoration not only served to remember the sad history of the division, but also to appreciate the courage and determination of the people who rose against oppression.
The deputy mayor from Reinickendorf, Uwe Brockhausen, opened the event and emphasized the meaning that the wall held as a symbol of the Cold War and the division of Europe. He recalled the tireless efforts of many who did not want to accept the division and campaigned for freedom and human rights, be it through escape tunnels, hidden escape aid or peaceful bridges of understanding.
Mayor Dr. Hans-Günther Oberlack from Glienicke also emphasized the importance of this common commemoration. He called it an "important ritual" that reminds us to appreciate the value of freedom and stand up for them.
The ceremonial wreath resignation was supported by the wax battalion at the Federal Ministry of Defense in order to appropriately express the respect and recognition for the victims.
