150 years of Waidmannslust: Celebrate, remember and in common!

Waidmannslust, Deutschland - On June 22, 2025, an important anniversary was celebrated in the municipal garden at the Queen Luise Church. District Mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU) spoke on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Waidmannslust and the 130-year history of the Free Scholle. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of these figures, which in reality tell stories of people who love and actively help shape their district. The transformation Waidmannslusts from a Waldgasthof to a living neighborhood was particularly appreciated.

Demirbüken-Wegner emphasized the numerous activities that combine the community, such as coffee clapes, playgrounds for children and the commitment of volunteers. Many thanks went to the Waidmannslust initiative and especially to Wolfgang Nieschalk, Bernd Kin and Pastor Christoph Anders, who are significantly involved in the organization of the celebrations. Numerous events are planned as part of the anniversary year, including neighborhood plastering campaigns, exhibitions as well as concerts and readings.

anniversary program and civic engagement

The anniversary of Waidmannslust is duly celebrated until October 5, 2025. The history of the area began in 1875 with a tavern called "Waidmannslust" in a forest and forest area between Tegel and Lübars. Around 25 years later, the place developed into a country house and villa settlement. The Queen Luise Church, which was inaugurated in 1913, is another testimony of this development.

The anniversary program is organized by the initiative Waidmannslust and citizens and also includes a historical photo exhibition that will be shown in the rectory from June 22nd. A lecture on the history of Waidmannslust will take place in the Reinickendorf Museum on July 22, 2025. In addition, two benches, including an age-appropriate Quassel-Bank, were donated by the district office. This bank is called "bank against loneliness" and is intended to create a place of encounter, while a bench near the anniversary fountain is to be set up as a joint project.

A look at the history and future of Waidmannslusts
