100 years of allotment gardener association Reinickendorf: a green oasis for humans and nature
An anniversary of a special kind: 100 years of the allotment garden in Reinickendorf
On July 12th, a very special anniversary was celebrated in Reinickendorf: the district association of allotment gardeners celebrated its 100th anniversary. From the beginning, the association was intensively committed to the interests of the allotment gardeners under the motto "Even a small garden is a big task".
Numerous guests had appeared for the big anniversary celebration, including district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner and the district councilor Kerstin Köppen, both from the CDU. The state chair of Berlin's allotment gardeners, Gerd Schoppa, as well as the district councilors Uwe Brockhausen (SPD) and Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) were also among the well-wishers.
In her speech, the mayor recognized the important role of the allotment gardens for the environment and social interaction. The former allotment gardens have now become valuable recreation areas that make a contribution to the city green and the ecological balance. It also emphasized the diversity of the social projects of the district association, including the social garden, the Fuchsgarten and the senior garden, which would not be feasible without the support of many volunteers.
The efforts to maintain a habitat for a species -rich flora and fauna as well as the promotion of coexistence between generations and cultures were particularly emphasized. For this occasion, the mayor presented the association a symbolic check for 500 euros in recognition of the great work, which has already been done and is to be done in the future.
