Right -wing extremist threats force teachers to leave the school in Burg

Max Teske and Laura Nickel leave the Mina Witkojc School in Burg im Spreewald. This step takes place after they had drawn attention to right -wing extremist incidents at their school in April in April and a nationwide media echo was caused. The two teachers were still faced with hostility and threats, and there were even demands on the part of some parents after their release because they allegedly brought their "ideology" to school.

On the last day of school before the summer vacation, the small town of Burg was covered with stickers, on which photos of Max Teske and Laura Nickel and the sentence "Piss to Berlin" were shown. On the same day, an Instagram account was created, which says: "Hunt for Max Teske and Laura Nickel". Emojis are shown under a picture of the two that show fists and drops of blood. In view of these persistent threats, both have decided to switch to other schools in Brandenburg. Max Teske fears that the situation would not calm down even after the summer vacation.

In his farewell letter to the 7th grade parents, which he looked after as a class teacher, Max Teske spoke of civil commitment and described himself as left -wing radicals. This letter found distribution in school chats in no time and also reached the local AfD. The Cottbus AfD chairwoman Jean-Pascal Hohm commented on the letter on Twitter with the words: "Civil commitment works: Left-wing radical Denunizant leaves Burger School."

Although Max Teske and Laura Nickel leave school, they want to continue to work in the "Alliance for more democracy in schools", which has formed in the region after the fire letter. This alliance was launched after Max Teske and Laura Nickel published their fire letter in April.

Education Minister Steffen Freiberg (SPD) referred to the support of the country for the teachers and the school in Burg. It is known that transfer applications have been made, but he does not comment on individual personnel matters. The country has taken care of the school since the announcement of the incidents and offered support with the help of the state school office and two school councils.

The anonymous fire letter of the two teachers describes right-wing extremists incidents at the Mina Witkojc School. Insults and acts of violence, swastika smears, Hitler greetings in the school corridors and right -wing extremist music were mentioned in class. The few students with a migration background would be threatened and bullied daily. Teachers and pupils who openly act against right -wing extremist students and parents would fear their own security.

The known fire letter also encouraged others to publicly make right -wing extremism in their own schools. After the incident in Burg, the Brandenburg school offices reported further similar cases. Between the 1st and 12th May 19, 19 incidents of school management in Brandenburg were reported to the state school authorities. The school office in Cottbus recorded eight incidents or statements, as the Ministry of Education announced.
