RBB building industry under fire: 6.88 million euros put in the sand!

The Bundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) faces serious challenges according to the latest results of the Berlin State Audit Office. A report shows significant mismanagement errors during the project for the Digital Medienhaus under the controversial artistic articles Patricia Schlesinger. The ambitious construction project, whose costs have originally exploded from 63 million euros to over 311 million euros, resulted in a loss of almost 7 million euros. The project was stopped by the new interim director Katrin Vernau at the end of 2022 after internal whistleblower pointed out the unclear consultant contracts and the steadily increasing costs. The examination documents draw an image of planning chaos, inadequate control and exaggerated euphoria for external consultants, acting without sufficient personal responsibility.

dismissals in the RBB remain rights

In the middle of this crisis, the news came that the Berlin Labor Court rejected the complaint from the former legal director of RBB, Susann Lange, against her termination without notice. The court found that the service contract that had been in force since 2020 was immoral and therefore void. For a long time, a pension of over 1.8 million euros would be due, although it did not provide any consideration for it. The court also explained that their notice without notice is justified due to breaches of duty, including the unjustified approval of an allowance. This is not the first case in which former managers of the RBB fail against their termination in court, and shows the continuing turbulence within the station, which are due to allegations of nepotism and waste, as well as n-tv reported.

The RBB management has announced that it would draw the teachings from the defects of the digital media house and to introduce proper demand programs for future projects. In addition, one plans to improve internal control and to strengthen the four -eye principle for structural tests. Nevertheless, it remains to be feared that the RBB, which is not only financially, but also in terms of reputation, has a long and stony recovery phase in front of it.
