Rat feeding ban in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: District office takes measures
rat control - ensure security in public space
In Marzahn-Hellersdorf, a new ban is issued that prohibits the display of food for rats in public. The district office reacts to the increasing rat population, which has already led to drastic measures in some Berlin districts.
A general order in the entire district area prohibits the laying of food for rats in public places such as roads, squares, green areas, playgrounds and in hospitals and care facilities. Nevertheless, feeding of birds and pets is still permitted as long as there is no risk that rats will be attracted. Particular attention is paid to the pigeon feeding, in which rats can also be supplied unconsciously.
District City Council for Youth, Family and Health Gordon Lemm emphasizes the need to curb the uncontrolled propagation of rats in public spaces in order to avoid transfers to people to humans. In other districts, measures had to be taken to counteract a plague of rat.
Compliance with the ban is checked and violations can be punished with fines. The exact regulations are recorded in the general order of the district office, which was published in the Official Journal of Berlin.
