Press council criticizes violations of duty of care and victim protection in media reports
The German press council spoke a total of 23 Rügen from June 11th to 13th. Some prominent online media such as bild.de and Zeit.de were criticized for violations of the duty of care and victim protection.
So Bild.de was criticized for the reporting on an actor who had rioted in public and was overwhelmed by the police. A photo and a video showed those affected in obviously confused state, which injured the actor's honor. This violation of the press code according to Section 9 led to a complaint.
The reporting on the custody dispute over the children of the steakhouse heiress Christina Block on Bild.de was also complained. The editorial team published street, place of residence and photos of the family of the family in Denmark as well as the name and photos of the children's home in which the children were brought. This presentation violated the protection of privacy and the protection of the identity of children and adolescents in accordance with section 8 of the press code.
The online edition of the Nordwest-Zeitung received a complaint for false claims about a demonstration against a citizens' dialogue of the AfD. The editors claimed that left -wing autonomous radicals and extremists had announced themselves, although there are no evidence of this. This misinformation and a severe violation of diligence was given a complaint.
The online edition of the Schwäbische Zeitung was also complained because she had taken over the unchecked statements of a family doctor about Corona pandemic. The doctor's statements, including an alleged improbability of new dangerous mutations and an alleged extermination of the virus by vaccinations, violated the duty of care according to Section 2 and Section 14 of the press code.
Other set up violations concerned, for example, false headings, misleading articles and the publication of sensitive photos without the consent of those affected. The exact details and a table with all the complaints can be found on the homepage of the German press council.
These complaints are an important step to ensure responsible and ethical reporting in the media. They serve to protect privacy and victim protection as well as to avoid misinformation and prejudices.
Historically, the press code in Germany has been a measure for the media's self -control for decades. The press code was first adopted in 1973 and provides ethical guidelines for journalistic work. It is regularly adjusted to meet the current developments and challenges.Table: Rügen of the German Press Council

The citizens have the right to reliable and truthful reporting that respects the protection of privacy and victim protection. The work of the German Press Council is therefore of great importance for a responsible media landscape.
