Poland puts on asylum law: an outcry for children's rights
The latest migration strategy of the Polish government hits waves and ensures outraged reactions! While the calls in Germany become louder after human use at the limits, Poland plans to suspend asylum law. A scandal that kicks international human rights with feet! The EU may not accept this serious violation of child rights and should therefore not become a precedent!
The child rights organization Terre des Hommes makes serious accusations and supports the criticism of Polish civil society, which describes this strategy as a direct attack on human rights. "The humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border is already drastically concerned," explains Teresa Wilmes, a consultant in the Hommes European program. The situation is unbearable for the families concerned: children, adolescents and adults sit in the forest for days and are brutally attacked by the Polish authorities in illegal pushbacks!
effects of the new strategy
The announcement of the Polish government could lead to an intensification of the already abusive pushback practices. Terre des hommes is alarmed! The organization has been working closely with partners of Polish civil society since 2022 and ensures that refugee children and adolescents in the border area are supplied with vital goods such as food, dry clothing and medication. But the situation is becoming more and more precarious!
The EU member states must finally act and make sure that children and their families have access to fair asylum procedures-anything else would be a betrayal of the basic values of this community! So it is clear: disregard for international law is not a solution, but another step in the wrong direction!
