Parking management in Kreuzberg: More space for everyone!

Parking management in Kreuzberg: More space for everyone!
Berlin, Deutschland - On May 27, 2025, the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection publishes a press release that highlights the progress of the project "Construction and operation of an extended environmental-sensitive traffic management system in Berlin (EuVM)". The central content is the results of six parking zone reports for parking space management in Berlin. One of these reports focuses on parking zone 65 in the Kreuzberg Wrangelkiez, which was introduced in December 2022.
Parking management in Wrangelkiez shows significant success. For example, the car parking space utilization of Formerly dropped approx. 90% of the parking spaces to less than 80% in the first quarter of 2024. Despite the introduction of traffic-calming measures, the number of free parking spaces rose. In addition, there is a significant decline in utilization on Görlitzer Straße, Cuvrystraße and on the banks of the Heckmann. However, the parking pressure remains high in Falckensteinstrasse.
decline of long -term parkers
Another important aspect is the decline in long -term parkers and commuting. The proportion of vehicles that have not moved over four days has decreased from 30% to 18%, which corresponds to a reduction of 145 vehicles. The proportion of commuting also decreased by 10 to 15 percentage points, but remains at a high level. These results confirm the parking management concept of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office.
In addition, a study that was carried out on behalf of the Senate Transport Management shows that up to 23% of the vehicles were still parked for a long time in another Kreuzberg residential area. These findings are also incorporated into the discussion about future parking space management in Berlin, with the first six parking zone reports on the effect of parking space management available from now on, such as the Berliner Zeitung reported.
future of parking space management
The parking space management in Neukölln was introduced on February 1, 2024, and the parking zones 100 (airport/Danubez) and 105 (Reuterkiez) are already active. Another parking zone, the zone 106 in the Weserkiez, started on May 1, 2024. From spring 2026, new parking zones in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain are also to follow. Residents can apply for their parking cards online or on site in the citizens' office, whereby a cashless payment is required. Information on the application can be found on the website of the city of Berlin.
The developments and measures to be used to manage parking space show the efforts of the city to control the flow of traffic and to improve the parking situation. Berlin thus relies on modern traffic management that not only serves the car but also environmental protection. Further information on the EUVM project and the parking zone reports can be found on the official website of Berlin: berlin.de .
