Road construction in Weißensee: Felling two linden trees until February 2024
in Weißensee, two linden trees must be felled due to the road construction in Schönstrasse by the end of February 2024. Both trees are so badly damaged that cuts are no longer sufficient to maintain them. The tree in front of house No. 79 suffered crown damage after a strong storm, while the linden tree can no longer be preserved in front of No. 18 due to construction -related interventions in the root room. In addition, a crown cut on a tree in front of house no. 12 is required to minimize the demolition risk of larger branches.
The planned measure has local effects on Schönstraße in Weißensee. The felled trees are not only part of the landscape, but also have ecological importance for the surrounding area. They offer habitat for birds and insects and contribute to air purification. The replacement plantings that are intended after the construction work will therefore make an important contribution to restoring the ecological balance in the street.
With regard to historical facts, it could be mentioned that trees have played an important role in urban planning for centuries. The plantation of trees along streets has not only aesthetic, but also practical reasons. Trees donate shade, improve air quality and contribute to the general well -being.
It is planned that two linden trees will be planted at the almost same locations after the construction of the tree slices in order to compensate for the loss of the felled trees. The following table provides an overview of the planned replacement plantings:
| Location | Planned tree species | Number |
| ———- | ————– | —— |
| House No. 79 | Linde | 1 |
| House No. 18 | Linde | 1 |
These replacement plantings are expected to contribute to alleviating the environmental impact of the tree felling and the cityscape of Weißensee in the long term. The planned measure and the proposed replacement plantings will therefore not only improve the urban planning, but also the ecological quality of the Schönstrasse in the long term.
