Sternsinger collect donations for children in Amazonia

On January 6th, the day of the Three Kings and traditionally pull the star singer from house to house to sing, bring the blessing and collect donations for children in need. This year the campaign is under the motto "Protecting the environment, strengthening children" and focuses on helping for children in Amazonia. There, children and adolescents are particularly at risk from the threats of slumding, deforestation and exploitation of resources.

In Berlin, the campaign will be present on January 5 in the town halls Pankow and Weißensee. District Mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch will receive the children of the Catholic parish of St. Georg in the town hall of Pankow, while youth councilor Rona Tietje will welcome the children of the Evangelical parish of Berlin-Weißensee and from the Catholic community of St. Josef in the foyer of the Weißensee town hall.

The children are disguised as Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar through the town halls, singing, collecting donations and bringing the blessing. The letters C+M+B are attached to the doors in connection with the year, which represents the abbreviation for "Christus Mansionem Benedicat" (Christ may bless this house).

Overall, the Sternsinger campaign is an important tradition that not only collects donations to help the needy, but also consciously power on the challenges that children are facing in certain regions such as Amazonia. The campaign is an opportunity to stand up for the protection of the environment and to strengthen the weakest in society.
