Student budget: Democracy project in Pankower schools
Student budget: Democracy project in Pankower schools
This year, ten schools from Pankow have the opportunity to take part in the student budget, a project that promotes participation and democracy for students. The participating schools can use a fixed budget of a total of 1,800 euros to decide how to use this money. The participating schools include the Elisabeth-Christinen primary school, the elementary school Alt-Karow, the elementary school on Teutoburger Platz, the elementary school in the Moselviertel, the elementary school under the trees, the Gustave-Eiffel-Schule, the Heinz-Brandt School, the Helene Haeusler School, the Max-Delbrück-Gymnasium and the Tesla community school.
Five schools were selected from ten applications, since their applications were most convincing to promote democratic principles within the scope of the project concept. The youth participation service office e.V. made the selection together with representatives of the district. Schools that were not selected this year are encouraged to apply again next year.
Some of the participating schools took part in the student budget last year and were able to register as inventory schools for another participation. Both these schools and the new participants want to establish the promotion of democracy in the long term at their school and use the student budget as an impulsive project. The youth participation service office e.V. supports the schools throughout the project with workshops, materials and individual advice.
The project is heralded with a kick -off event in which all participating schools come together. The youth participation service point is looking forward to meeting all schools and dealing with them at various events in the course of the project. For the next year, three project places are expected to be filled by new schools. The official tender is expected to start in October.
Overall, the student household offers students the opportunity to actively participate in democratic processes and to experience participation. Through practical experience, young people should be strengthened in their understanding of democracy and gain important learning experiences.
